If you are a defendant in a civil or criminal trial, you have the right to appeal the decision of the jury or trial judge.

The appeals process involves a higher court review of the lower court’s judgment. Unlike other forms of litigation, in appellate law there is no discovery; the appellate record is limited to the facts presented during the original trial.

The Arizona Court of Appeals has jurisdiction over cases appealed from Superior Court and the appeals are presented to a three-judge appellate panel. The Federal District Court has original jurisdiction of all civil actions arising under the U.S. Constitution, laws or treaties between citizens of two different states, civil matters more than $75,000 and civil rights.
